In honor of International Women’s Day, March 8th, we have interviewed Accident Care’s President, Dr. Alexis Lee.
Why did you become a chiropractor?
I was hurt in multiple car accidents during my college years because I was driving so much during that period of time. Honestly, I tried many different types of treatment, but chiropractic care helped me the most. I was excited by the holistic and natural ways of chiropractic. With one of the Best Chiropractic Colleges located in my hometown (University of Western States) it just made sense to pursue a career in chiropractic. I’m very glad to be a part of the chiropractic profession and I hope to contribute to the overall growth and advancement of the chiropractic profession.
Why do you love what you do?
Chiropractic is wholesome and natural healthcare and I’m still amazed by the results that chiropractic care is able to deliver for our patients with little to no side effects. A career in chiropractic has been personally very rewarding for me. I’ve met and worked along with so many co-workers and colleagues who love what they do, and it doesn’t feel like work.
What do you like to do in your free time?
I like to read, cook, exercise like yoga or CrossFit. Spending time with my family and friends
Where did you grow up?
I grew up in Vietnam until I was 11, since 11 I have lived in SE Portland Oregon.
When you became a chiropractor, did you ever dream that you would be president of a company this large?
No, when I first started out in the profession I didn’t exactly have everything mapped out. I knew I wanted to do work on my own terms and do it my way, so to speak. Along the way good people have come along and joined the company, and along with them we made it to where we are today. I’m honored that they continue to let me lead us and I hope to continue to lead the company to even better days.
What are you most proud of regarding the company?
I’m very proud of the way our company handled the current pandemic. We have shown resilience in this time of uncertainty and economic hardship. We continue to show up every day for our patients and our communities. We have shown support for each other and remained steadfast in our goals to serve our patients in a safe environment.
What are your goals for the company?
I want to continue providing a safe and supportive workplace for all of our employees. I want equal opportunities at Accident Care for all people regardless of gender, race, sexual orientation, religion and whatever that differences may be.
How do you feel about being a woman in a male dominated profession?
To be honest, I don’t approach my day-to-day work from a woman perspective. I don’t analyze problems and solutions from that perspective. I don’t say to myself because I am a woman, I see things this way or do things that way. I continue to surround myself with hard working and respectable partners and employees and I go about my business. I show up at work every day ready to lead and work hard. I’ve encountered situations where I feel people tried to beat me down because I am a woman and a minority, but that’s more of their problem than it is mine.
