Salem ChiropractorJob Title: Chiropractic Physician

Clinic Locations: Salem and Woodburn

Where I grew up: Albert City, Iowa. A tiny speck on the map among the cornfields of America’s heartland

First Jobs: Bagging groceries at the local store

If I wasn’t a chiropractor, I would be: a wilderness guide/survival instructor and search and rescue medic

Favorite junk food: Anything gummy

In my free time I enjoy: camping, hiking, going the beach, shooting range, golfing, reading, wine tasting, trying new restaurants

Favorite song: I consider that impossible to answer.  I love anything from the 80s 90s and early 2000s

Why I became a chiropractor: After getting degrees in other fields and working in other professions I found myself yearning for a greater challenge and a more meaningful career.  I had a great experience with a chiropractor in my teenage years when one visit to my family chiropractor cured my chronic headaches.  That experience stuck with me and knew I wanted a profession that was not only challenging but also allowed me to have an impact on people’s lives.

Why I love what I do:  I’m a quintessential lifetime student.  I would probably go to school forever if it was free!  The human body is utterly fascinating and as a doctor the learning never ends. Being able to take that knowledge and apply it to change someones life is extremely rewarding.  The best part is watching the progress of someone who comes into the office with little to no hope and leaves with the attitude of having their life restored.

Why I became a chiropractor: I have always known that I want to do something where I am helping people directly. I wanted to find a career where I could build and maintain personal relationships with people and when I found chiropractic, I had the opportunity to do this while helping people overcome their pain, improve their daily function, and live their best lives. There is nothing more rewarding than guiding and assisting patients through the arduous healing process.
Why I love what I do: It is so satisfying to finish each patient interaction with them thanking you and knowing that they were looking forward to their appointment all day. I also think the human body is intriguing and amazing. I am a life long learner and in this profession, I get to learn more about the human body every day. I achieve great results by using a combination of physical therapy modalities, nutrition/lifestyle counseling, rehabilitative exercises, and specific spinal/extremity adjustments of various techniques to most effectively treat patients.

There’s an array of injuries a car accident can cause, including concussions, fractures, and lacerations. Your neck is one of the most vulnerable parts in such accidents. Because seatbelts hold your body still but your head and neck can move freely, the rapid changes in the car’s speed during a collision can seriously hurt it. It usually hits the soft tissues, intervertebral discs, and joint capsules. While it’s most likely for someone involved in a car accident to experience pain immediately, some injuries take time to manifest and the symptoms get worse over time. Read more
