Pain in the lower back limits your ability to move and it’s a surprisingly common problem. In fact, over 31 million people in America alone struggle with this condition at any given time. Luckily for you, this condition doesn’t have to affect your life forever. There are many techniques recommended by chiropractors that can give you the chance to live a normal life.

Stretch Regularly

It sounds so simple, but stretching regularly goes a long way at combatting lower back pain. The moment you wake up, go through a series of stretches to relieve pain in the soft tissues of your lower back, neck, and spine. This is important because your spinal column is composed of parts which are designed to move. The more active you are and the more you stretch, the fewer pains you’ll experience.

There are many stretching exercises that work, but try to choose one that you are comfortable with and can do for at least 10-15 minutes per day. You could try the knee to chest exercise, where you lie flat on your back and move your knees to your chest. Hold this position for 30 seconds while grabbing your thighs and release. It’s a simple, yet effective exercise you can do virtually anywhere in your home.

Utilize Correct Posture

It’s no surprise that sitting down for extended periods of time leads to bad posture, which in turn leads to lower back pain. That’s why it is critical to have correct posture, no matter where you are or what you are doing. Good posture also helps decrease stress put on your joints, keeps your bones in the correct alignment, and goes a long way in preventing arthritis.

If you are sitting, make sure your back is straight against the chair. All three of your normal back curves should be present when you sit as well. There are chairs and devices a chiropractor in Tigard, OR could recommend to make maintaining good posture throughout the day a breeze. Ergonomic chairs, for example, may be recommended because of their adjustable parts and varied seating positions. They make it easy to find a comfortable setting, allowing you to maintain correct posture.

Lower back pain, if left untreated, affects your life in many unpleasant ways. But if you heed the chiropractor’s advice and take the necessary precautions throughout the day, you can effectively get rid of all that pain
