A Certified Chiropractor Applies Different Methods and Techniques for Treatment

Treatment Methods Applied by Your Chiropractor

When it comes to pain management, it’s important that a proper assessment and accurate diagnosis of your condition is attained. Only then can you be given an effective treatment program to put you on the road to a quick and full recovery.

Many people are not aware of the varying kinds of treatment programs a chiropractor can apply and when each type is used. The two main types of treatment, for example, are spinal manipulation and the soft-tissue method.

Spinal Manipulation

This is the most easily recognizable type of chiropractic treatment. It specifically works on subluxations in the spine, which are otherwise known as the misalignment of certain joints. It is usually conducted by applying pressure and a quick jerk or “snap” on the neck of the patient. Understandably, such a popping sound can cause the patient some distress, especially for the first-timer. Some are inclined to think the snap is due to a bone breaking or a muscle being torn.

Apprehension on the part of the patient is not necessary, however. The popping sound is actually due to the “bubbles” of gas found in the small pockets of vacuum spaces in your joints. Through their manipulation, the bubbles “burst” and make the otherwise disturbing sound. The sound is perfectly normal in the course of a manipulation treatment. This is also why the chiropractor usually tells patients about this dynamic in advance. After all, surprises when undergoing any treatment are never fun.

Soft-Tissue Treatment

Soft-tissue treatment usually comes in the form of either a massage or stretching.  Musculoskeletal or tendon disorders are usually the targets for this kind of treatment. But, it can also improve your joint movements as it aims to bring the joint back to its full functionality, particularly in cases of sports injuries or common slip-and-fall accidents.

To further improve the chances of a quick recovery, chiropractors can now complement their treatment regimen with other programs, such as dietary nutrition, rehabilitative exercises, and even counseling. For the patients to fully maximize the benefits offered by their chiropractic treatment, they should adhere strictly to the instructions of their chiropractor, from trusted practices such as Accident Care Chiropractic of Vancouver. They can prescribe the treatment and programs you need to recover from your condition completely and safely.

The most important step you need to take is to set up your initial consultation. Then, you can obtain an accurate diagnosis of what is at the source of your pain or injury.
